In case you’ve been hiding, the clocks have gone back here in the UK. This means that evenings are darker, days are shorter and the nights are longer. If you’re not a parent with a child waking up at ungodly hours of the morning, anyway. Sounds dreadful right? Wrong. This time of year is the absolute best, and I’m going to tell you why.
Remember Summer, when it was too hot for a duvet, let alone cuddle without feeling like you’re in a furnace? Thank goodness that’s over! One of the main reasons this time of year is my favourite is that it’s so cosy. The heating gets turned on, wooly socks get put on your feet while wrapped up in a blanket. I love a good cuddle on the sofa with a blanket watching a bit of EastEnders with my feet up.
We all love a hot water bottle, but as the weather gets colder they stop being a novelty and more an necessity. Throughout December and January the big knitted jumpers and hot water bottles become a must. I remember it was so cold a couple of years back that I actually used the receptionists hot water bottle she bought in one afternoon. Now, you may think that surely that’s a bad thing about this time of year, but no. Surprisingly, I love it when I need to use a hot water bottle as there is something so comforting about it.
Long walks in the cold, crisp air is something so refreshing. The scenery of leaves falling to the ground, changing colour is absolutely stunning. Everything feels like I’m in a movie, or a music video and it’s so relaxing and peaceful going on an afternoon walk along the seafront or forestry walk. The novelty of stepping on all the leaves you can to find the satisfying crunchy one. Yes, at 20 years of age, I still do it.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fashion at this time of year? I love the clothing at this time of year; the colours, the fabrics, the patterns and layering. Nothing beats wrapping up in a big coat and scarf with a nice pair of boots on. Of course, these being the colder months, it makes it more practical to wear boots at this time of year. You won’t see me in a flat pair of shoes for around 5 months all the while boots are suitable to wear.
You really can’t moan about anything at this time of year, not even the sound of rain on the window. Well, you could if you got stuck in the rain, but you really should have an umbrella. This time of the year is the best, no doubt about it. Sorry, Summer, as much as you’re great, the colder weather is better in every way.
