The liquid lipstick hype has been going on some time now, and I’ve been loving them since I first tried them. I’ve really started to get a bit addicted recently; I go through phases where I get obsessed with a different makeup product and can’t stop buying them. I think now is the perfect time to begin this infatuation with them as it’s coming up to fall and I love wearing dark matte lips at this time of year. I’m the sort of person that definitely prefers mattes over shimmers any day, they just suit me so much more. Fall is the perfect time to get out those dark purples and burnt orange shades.

I think the favourite liquid lipstick I own is my Exposed one from Kylie Cosmetics. I have four of her Lip Kits, and do I think they’re the best on the market? Not by any means. I have good days and bad days with these where one day they’ll go on fine, then another they’ll be really drying and flakey. However, saying that, they are very creamy and easy to apply. I like the way it applies as it’s quite smooth and it doesn’t dry too quickly so it’s easy to correct any mistakes made. One of the main points to the Kylie Lip Kit is the fact that it lasts hours; through eating, drinking, on a night out etc. Although it does last hours and hours if you’re not doing much, I have found that if I eat something like a burrito or something fairly saucy then it will flake and come off slightly, but that’s expected in my eyes. It’s not labelled bulletproof people. I have done a full review on Dolce & Posie before so if you’d like a more in depth opinion then feel free to read that.

I bought a few Bourgois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks a while back; one orange, one red and one nude pink. Just by looking at the product it does look like it’s going to be quite glossy, but that’s not the case whatsoever. It’s very easy to apply, almost like a gloss, but once it’s on the finish is completely matte. I have found that to get a really intense finish with these like the Kylie Lip Kits a few layers need to be applied as it is quite streaky. The red in particular I found to be more like a tint when I first put it on, it’s only after a couple of layers that the colour intensifies. When I first swatched these the orange & red looked pretty much the same colour, so I was hoping it’d be a different story when actually applied to the lips. Well, thank the lord because once on the lips & dry it is easy to see the difference between the two shades. The formula is really smooth and the applicator is so soft making it so easy to apply, however as I said, it is quite streaky with only one layer.

I’m going to mention a couple more really quickly as they’re the most recent I’ve bought. They are the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte & the MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer. I got the shades Nude Flush (obsession with nude tones continues) and Berry Boost. I was quite disappointed with these in all honesty. They’re amazing to apply, and the formula isn’t drying whatsoever. On the other hand, when I say it isn’t drying it’s because they’re nearer to a gloss than a liquid lipstick. I didn’t really like these that much out of all the ones I’ve tried.

However, the MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer surprised me pleasantly. It cost me £3 so I wasn’t expecting great things, but I’d heard a lot of great things about many MUA products so wanted to try. I’m so glad I did. I got the colour Kooky which is a gorgeous plum purple that’ll look amazing in fall – I’m already super excited to wear it all the time. This liquid lipstick has the same consistency as the Kylie Lip Kits; easy to apply, really matte and long lasting. The only downside is that the applicator is quite hard, so be careful when applying. It also worked in my favour though as it made it easier to be more precise when getting nearer the edges of my lips.

There you have it, some of my favourite and most recent purchases of liquid lipsticks. I can tell this phase is going to go on right the way through fall and winter so I’ll be sure so keep you updated if I find any more amazing ones. Let me know your favourites too!
