When it comes to highlighter, things have really taken off in recent years. 5 years ago I wouldn’t have dreamed of applying shimmery powder to my face. Now, 2017, it’s a totally normal thing to do. There have been multiple palettes released over the last couple of years that have taken the makeup world by storm. None of them have quite caught my eye quite like this palette; from the packaging, to the product its self – I’m hooked. The Kat Von D Alchemist Palette is the stuff dreams are made of.
The first thing that will generate interest in a product is the packaging, so it’s only right to begin there. Usually packaging wouldn’t really phase me too much, it’s the product that counts. However, this is an exception. Never in my life have I fangirled over packaging in my life, until now. The white, holographic casing is stunning, especially when the light hits it. The scrollwork wrapped around the ‘A’ on the front of the palette it absolutely gorgeous, and I’m all for the simplicity to the design. Something that also grabbed my attention was the mirror on the inside. It’s a decent size and good quality. Perfect for those on-the-go travel weekends.
The product itself is everything I was hoping it to be. We all hope that a highlighter is going to be the right ratio of glow to powder. Kat Von D has perfected precisely that. It’s so important that you get the glow you’re after without a strange patch on your face. I’ve experienced this before with some highlighters where it just looks like white powder on my cheekbones. The formula is so good! To me, it’s important that my highlighter isn’t cakey or heavy on the face. After putting powder, contour and blush on my face, the last thing I want is my highlight to feel horrible on my face. This highlight is great as it’s so lightweight, and the pigmentation means a little goes a long way!
In the palette there are four beautiful shades that are perfect to pair with any look you could dream of. The shades would look amazing on any skin tone which is also a huge bonus! One of the best things about this palette is the versatility. The product can be used as eyeshadows, lip toppers and highlighters. From top to bottom: Opal, Saphyre, Amethyst, Emerald.
So, I think it’s fair to say my first impressions are all good! I have no complaints so far, and I’m hoping that continues. I’m really excited to use this more as the time goes on. As you may know, I’m always on the hunt to discover some new, amazing products. What are your favourite highlighters at the moment? Have you got your eye on any? Let me know in the comments below.
